Inter Miami’s Robert Taylor was released by Nottingham Forest in 2009 and now he’s playing alongside Lionel Messi in the MLS.

Taylor was only 15 when he was at Forest. He spent a single season at the club but failed to earn an extension to his apprenticeship after the 2008/09 campaign.

Since then he’s been all over the world, trying to make a career for himself. He’s not done a bad job of things and currently plays international football for Finland.

After leaving Lincoln City, Taylor has played for a number of clubs in Norway, Sweden and Finland before finally heading to Inter Miami in February 2022 where he has formed a good on-field relationship with Lionel Messi.

Taylor subbed off in the Open Cup final

Despite being Miami’s second highest-rated player based upon average rating this season, the forward was substituted at halftime against Houston last night.

The favourites were 2-0 before the break, with Taylor one of two players taken off to try and rescue the game.

Unfortunately for Gerardo Martino’s side, they were unable to stage a fightback and despite a late goal, fell to a 2-1 defeat in the Open Cup final

Taylor never really made the grade at Forest. He spent just a year in the club’s academy but ultimately not every single player can make the breakthrough on Trentside.

The now 28-year-old has four goals and four assists in his 24 MLS matches so far this season, with the Finish international looking to add to his tally against New York City FC on Sunday night.
