Matchday Guide | Wrexham (A)

Crewe Alexandra will face Wrexham in a competitive fixture for the first time in two decades on Saturday.

Lee Bell’s side will look to build on impressive recent form at the Racecourse, after wins over Forest Green Rovers and Colchester United and a draw at Wimbledon.

The Opposition

Wrexham have won three out of their last five games and are just behind the Alex in League Two, sitting in seventh place.

But they were crushed 5-0 last time out against Stockport County and will look to get back to winning ways.

The Gaffer

Vastly-experienced Phil Parkinson was appointed Wrexham boss in summer 2021. He led the club to promotion last season as they surpassed 100 points in the National League.

Previously, Parkinson has managed Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City in an impressive career.

Fighting Talk

Ryan Dicker (Crewe Assistant Manager): “It’s a derby game. We are just concentrating on what we need to do and preparing how we would for any game. I’d imagine there will be goals in the game and they are strong at home.”

Phil Parkinson: “The reaction is massive for us now; we need to make sure that we go and put it right on Saturday. Being back at home it will be good to go and get a win for the fans.”

Head-to-Head

Crewe Alexandra and Wrexham have met 122 times and have each emerged as victors on 42 occasions.

The last encounter between the teams was in 2003, when goals from Dean Ashton and Steve Jones earned a 2-0 vctory for Crewe in the EFL Cup.

Match Officials

The referee for Saturday’s clash is Lee Swabey. The linesmen will be Jacob Lehane and Paul Stonier. The fourth official will be Kevin Morris
