Adam Armstrong says the Southampton dressing room are buzzing with their performance in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Leeds United at St Mary’s.

Saints got off to the perfect start after Adam Armstrong opened the scoring inside the first two minutes. Kyle Walker-Peters’ excellent pass behind the Leeds defence found the Southampton captain who produced an excellent chipped finish over Islan Meslier from a tight angle.

Will Smallbone then got his first goal of the season with a guided, first-time finish from inside the box on the half-hour mark before, four minutes later, Armstrong fired home his second in off Pascal Struijk from a similar angle to his first.

Daniel Farke required a response from his Leeds team in the second half and got it on the hour mark as Struijk pulled one back from a corner after Southampton failed to clear their lines.

But the visitors couldn’t build on their goal, with Southampton seeing the game out well to register a much-needed three points to get their season back on track after four straight losses.
