West Ham manager David Moyes has become a “victim of his own success” since lifting the Europa Conference League, according to Robbie Fowler.
Moyes is under increasing pressure at the London Stadium after a poor run of results in recent weeks, which includes a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal in East London (11 February).
Although he has been offered a new contract, the pressure is still very much on, and ex-Liverpool and England striker Fowler has detailed one factor that may have increased the pressure on the 60-year-old.
Writing in the Sunday Mirror (25 February, page 69), Fowler said, “David Moyes has become a victim of his own success at West Ham United.
“It was clear to see what winning the Europa Conference League last season meant to Moyes, and to Hammers fans so unaccustomed to silverware.
“But success brings greater demands. Hammers fans want more now – and are right to expect it.”
West Ham fans must be careful what they wish for
Fowler is spot on, West Ham fans will have higher expectations having lifted the Conference League last June and they are right to call for the club to kick on from that success.
However, they must not forget that it was Moyes who allowed them to taste that success.
