Two-time Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is currently not in the running for the Sunderland job despite rumours that have been circulating recently, according to the latest reports.

Lampard has been out of work following his disastrous stint at Stamford Bridge last season as interim head coach when he managed to guide the Blues to merely one victory in 11 matches in all competitions. The club legend is the bookies’ favourite to become the new head coach at the Stadium of Light, but The Northern Echo have revealed that the 45-year-old is “not in the thinking of Sunderland’s hierarchy”.

The Championship outfit have been without a manager for four months since former Queens Park Rangers boss Michael Beale was relieved of his duties after merely 12 matches in charge. Mike Dodds was handed the reins on an interim basis until the end of the season to give the board enough time to find a permanent successor for Beale.

Nevertheless, despite the transfer window officially swinging open earlier today, Sunderland are still without a man at the helm. There were also rumblings on social media that the iconic Chelsea midfielder was to be the next boss on Wearside but this is deemed to be untrue by The Northern Echo.

The outlet are also claiming that QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes is admired by those at the club, although it has been revealed over the past week that it would take a “significant compensation fee” to prise him away from Loftus Road.
