Cheick Tiote died at the age of 30: Sadly, a former Newcastle player has died.
Cheick Tiote, a former Newcastle United midfielder, has died at the age of 30, according to a spokeswoman for the player.
The Ivorian midfielder fell during training at his current club, Beijing Enterprises of China’s second level.
“It is with deep sadness that I confirm that my client Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training with his club Beijing Enterprises,” Tiote’s spokesman Emanuele Palladino said.
“We cannot say anything else at this time, and we ask that his family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
“We ask for all of your prayers.”
Tiote made over 150 games for Newcastle between 2010 and 2017 and was a seasoned Ivory Coast international with over 50 caps.
Former teammate Demba Ba was one of several footballers to pay tribute to Tiote, tweeting: “may Allah grant you jannah (paradise) brother Tiote.”
