Max Kilman has revealed that West Ham ‘want to make a big noise’ after the former Newcastle United target completed his £40m move to the London Stadium.

Kilman had previously been monitored by Newcastle, who are in the market for a right-sided centre-back, even though the defender is naturally left-footed like Sven Botman, Lloyd Kelly and Dan Burn. It is worth noting that Gary O’Neil, Bruno Lage and Nuno have all previously used Kilman as a right-sided centre-back at various points. O’Neil even went as far as to say he ‘really liked him on the right because he gives us different solutions’.

Newcastle clearly took note of that flexibility, but it was West Ham who ultimately stumped up the £40m to sign the defender from Wolves earlier this week. Kilman, in the process, has reunited with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui after signing a seven-year deal at the London Stadium.

“I’m so delighted to be here to join such a massive club,” he said. “I just can’t wait to get started and get going.

“I got a call from my agent who said West Ham were interested and, of course, West Ham are a massive club and I wanted to hear more about it. So glad that it finally got done and I’m here now.

“I had some really good conversations. I spoke to the gaffer a lot and he said about making such a big noise. He wants to be more attacking and really try to progress and get this club in a better position. The club has done so well in recent years. Just to keep up the form and grow as much as possible.”
