The Whites ended the summer transfer window with a flourish after turmoil in losing key players in July and August, with their final signing being Isaac Schmidt.

Signing from St Gallen on deadline day, Leeds added a very versatile full-back to their ranks to bring competition alongside Junior Firpo, Jayden Bogle and Sam Byram.

A £2.5million deal between Leeds and St Gallen has been a culmination of Schmidt’s impressive rise since emerging in Switzerland with Lausanne, making his debut in June 2020 as seasons resumed – the same day Leeds dropped their final points of the title-winning season at home to Luton Town.

However, as he speaks in an interview with LeedsLive, Schmidt reveals life could have been hugely different for Schmidt after suffering injuries and struggling for a breakthrough at the top end of the Swiss pyramid, spotted by St Gallen in a fixture against Vaduz.

Speaking about his move to St Gallen, he said:Isaac Schmidt - NamuWiki

“Three years ago, there was a moment where I was between going out of professional football completely or going to the third or fourth division. I had a miracle that St Gallen saw me for a few games in that last year (19/20).

“The coach saw me for one game and he told me ‘You were the best player. I don’t care if you had the injury. If we work with you
