Sean Dyche says he wants to continue as Everton boss and be part of Dan Friedkin’s exciting new world.

Friedkin’s imminent £500million takeover puts Dyche’s future in doubt and Everton have not opened contract talks, with his current one expiring in July, because they know that is a decision for the American billionaire. Dyche is adamant he wants to carry on as manager after the points deductions and relegation fights he has successfully negotiated over the his 20-month reign.

“Of course!” said the Everton boss. “What, to dig this out for 20-whatever-it-would-be-by-then months and them to go ‘cheers, thanks for looking after us, off you pop?’. “Of course I would, but there’s no divine right to just go ‘oh well, you’re definitely the person to do that’. And if not, then that’s the way it goes.”

Dyche is right to be cautious and the Pozzo family sacked him in 2012 when they took over because they wanted to take the club in a different direction, appointing Gianfranco Zola as manager. Friedkin could well axe Dyche and the Blues boss says he does not know what will happen to him because the American billionaire hasn’t spoken to him.

“When I was at Watford I did a great job,” he said. “Finished 11th, brought in £4million worth of players, spent £1million and I got removed from that because it was a complete change of business. I respected that. My point is I didn’t get removed because I’d done a good or bad job, I just got removed because their whole business model was different.

“I don’t know what their [Friedkin] business model is yet and no-one really does. I haven’t spoken to them so I’ll wait for news on that. “It’s not a given that they speak to me, but you’d imagine they probably will at some point.

“My future’s not really relevant. I got brought here as a custodian, I got brought to do a specific job I feel, especially looking backwards from where it was to where it is now. And I continue to work hard at that, that’s really my focus. The rest of it all will sort itself out.
