Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are plotting a move for Newcastle United midfield mainstay Bruno Guimaraes.

Manchester City are looking to reinforce their midfield in 2025 on a priority basis following a ligament injury to Rodri. They have looking at potential targets and according to a report from Fichajes, Pep Guardiola’s team are interested in signing Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes.

The Magpies forked out in excess of €42 million to sign the Brazilian international in the winter of 2022. The former Olympique Lyon star has only gone from strength to strength since making the move to England. He has established himself as one of their mainstays and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

While the 26-year-old defensive midfielder’s contract with the Tyneside club runs until the summer of 2028, he was often been linked with a move away from the club. City seem to be the one who are keen on having the Brazilian star in their squad.

The Premier League giants have been linked with him in the previous transfer windows but their interest now seems to be at its peak. The Manchester-based club suffered a major blow in the game against Arsenal as they lost Rordi to a ligament tear.

City eye Guimaraes as potential Rodri replacement

The Spanish international is expected to be out for the remainder of the season and City are looking at potential options to reinforce their midfield in 2025. Guimaraes’ name is quite high on their wishlist. The 26-year-old has a similar playing style to that of Rodri and he could help fill his big boots.

The Brazilian star put up an impressive performance in their game against Guardiola’s team which has only increased their interest in him. He has the ability to control the tempo, dictate the pace and play those that cause panic in the opposition defence.

Guimaraes seems to be an ideal fit for City but they are not going to find it easy to sign him. Newcastle consider him an integral part of their plans and having forked out more than €42 million to acquire his services back in the day, they are unlikely to let him leave with ease.
