Derby County star says Rams ‘owed’ fans for Exeter victory
Derby County defender Curtis Nelson has said the Rams ‘owed’ the fans a performance in their 2-0 win over Exeter City.
The Rams bounced back from their humiliating 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town with a comfortable victory on Tuesday night, under the lights at Pride Park.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored the first on the half hour mark, poking home after some neat work from Max Bird and Craig Forsyth down the left hand side.
Conor Washington added the second in the 79th minute, cutting in off the left hand side before striking it hard and low at the near post to secure the three points.

After the reaction from the fans to Saturday’s game, manager Paul Warne would have known he would have needed to get three points, to ease fan pressure in his job.
The fans were vocal following Saturday’s game after a very disappointing performance. Goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith said following the game for the fans to ‘stay positive’.
Despite pre-season expectations for the club to be pushing for promotion this season after missing out on the playoffs in the final day last season, the Rams find themselves sat in eighth position in League One, two points off the playoff places.
The win on Tuesday will hopefully kickstart a good run of form for Warne’s side, who have been lacking the ability to score goals recently.
