The Championship winger is apparently on his way back to Belgium with Standard Liege after Southampton reportedly accepted a £3 million bid for Moussa Djenepo.

With the additions of Isaac Price and Romain Mundle from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, Standard Liege is beginning to establish a reputation as a preferred choice for Premier League players in search of a warm environment.

Isaac Hayden, a forgotten player for Newcastle United, is apparently also about to join Standard. In addition, Hayden ought to be joined at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne by a player who, four years after moving to Southampton for a cool £15 million, now pays a little fraction of that sum to rejoin his previous team.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri tweets that Moussa Djenepo will rejoin Standard Liege as a player. A final transfer (price) of over 3.5 million euros was agreed upon with the Saints.

As stated, the agreement is for three years.

Today, Moussa Djenepo departs from Southampton.

Djenepo is already in Paris and traveling to Liege, according to Tavolieri. Before Tuesday’s game is over, he should get a medical.

At St Mary’s, the Mali international struggled to live up to his high price tag, scoring just three league goals in nearly 80 appearances. Since the arrival of Russell Martin, he has also yet to kick a ball in anger; Southampton’s eagerness to cash in despite losing fellow winger Nathan Tella to Bayer Leverkusen is particularly striking.

With Che Adams remaining and Ross Stewart joining from a Sunderland team that, paradoxically, destroyed the Saints 5-0 without their Scottish talisman on Saturday, Martin feels confident that Southampton still has enough firepower at their disposal despite Tella’s departure.

“We have three excellent nines on our team. Martin tells the Northern Echo that Sekou (Mara) can perform as number nine, Adam Armstrong, Che Adams, etc. “Since we have some serious competition, we don’t need to rush Ross back from injury. Instead, we need ensure that he can stay healthy and play for us when he does.

“Ross and I spoke. He is quite happy. Up here he felt at home. I’m pretty happy about it since I believe it will appeal to everyone.

He’s a lovely kid and has a really great personality. He’ll be a big assistance to us. He’ll be a great addition, so we just need to get him totally fit and ready as soon as we can.
