Oldham Athletic give update on search for new manager.
Oldham Athletic have assured supporters a “thorough” recruitment process will be conducted to find the club’s next manager.
Latics have received dozens of applications for the vacant post at Boundary Park, with the board agreeing the process which should be undertaken in their search for David Unsworth’s successor.
Unsworth had been earmarked as the man to replace John Sheridan in September last year, but as a result of a poor start to the season he left the club on Sunday in the aftermath of a 3-0 defeat at Bromley, just days away from his first anniversary.
The club’s head of recruitment, Steve Thompson has been placed in interim charge, and oversaw a 2-0 win over York City in midweek to end a run of seven winless games.
A club statement read: “The Board of Oldham Athletic can confirm that a number of applications have been received for the vacant position of first team manager.
“At a Board meeting held this week, a recruitment process was agreed upon and will be followed over the coming weeks. The Board wants to ensure the process is thorough and that the merits of all candidates are properly considered.
“In the meantime, Steve Thompson will continue to take charge of first team matters on an interim basis. The Board would like to thank Steve for his work in doing so.
“The club aims to make an appointment as quickly as possible once the identified process is complete.”
