Newcastle United are dealing with a new investigation on banned midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali is now under investigation by the English FA after the governing body launched its own probe.

The Italy midfielder has already been banned by FIFA and faces 10 months on the sidelines. The move from the FA comes just hours after Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth had given a 47-minute Press briefing on the £55million man’s future.Dan Ashworth: Newcastle internally investigating Sandro Tonali transfer after 'massive shock' at betting breaches | Football News | Sky Sports

FIFA had already ratified the Italian Football Federation’s 10 month suspension meaning he is unavailable for matches until the end of August 2024. Newcastle supremo Ashworth and Eddie Howe stated today that they were able to use Tonali in training.

Whether the FA’s investigation brings further punishment remains to be seen but the powers that be at Wembley, where the FA are based these days, slapped a ban on Ivan Toney for breaking betting rules last summer.

That included three months of no training as the ban covered “all football related activity.” Although, Newcastle stated today – via Ashworth – that they felt they were in the clear for Tonali to train.
