There were some huge tackles during Newcastle vs Arsenal on Saturday night, but Joelinton celebrated the biggest.

It was an incredibly physical game at St James’ Park, as the Magpies recorded a huge 1-0 win thanks to a goal that has caused a lot of controversy. But that was not the only questionable incident on Saturday night.

The first came when Kai Havertz wiped out Sean Longstaff with a horrible tackle. He received a yellow, but it very easily could have been red.

Then there was an incident involving Bruno Guimaraes where he should have saw red too. He crashed into the back of Jorginho’s head with his arm, and it was a major surprise to see him get away with it.

Tackles were flying in from both sides, one of which left Joelinton absolutely buzzing.

Joelinton celebrates huge tackle as Newcastle beat Arsenal

As Arsenal probed for an equaliser in the final minute, Jorginho played a slack pass in the direction of Declan Rice. However, it was so wayward that Joelinton had a chance of nicking it.

The 27-year-old steamed in and went to ground, getting to the ball first and leathering it off Rice and out for a Toon throw-in.

The challenge led to a huge celebration from Joelinton, as seen on the club’s match-cam footage that they have uploaded to their official YouTube channel (10:55).

After winning the tackle with Rice, Joelinton can be seen leaping to his feet and letting out a huge roar. He then screams ‘come on’ with his arms tensed, knowing that the game was won.

After the resulting throw-in, the referee blew his whistle and the three points went to Newcastle.

Joelinton was immense on Saturday night

The aftermath of the game has been dominated by Mikel Arteta’s reaction and Arsenal’s embarrassing statement, and it has took away from how well Newcastle did.

They became the first Premier League team to beat Arsenal this season, completely nullifying their attack.

The challenge at the end from Joelinton summed up his entire 90 minutes. He was an absolute giant against the Gunners, and was Newcastle’s best player for me.

Celebrating tackles has become the norm at St James’ Park lately, and Joelinton was right to roar in excitement after that challenge on Rice.
