As usual, the World Darts Championship consists it two stages. During the first nine days of play, the first two rounds are completed. The 32 remaining players return after Christmas for the remainder of the World Darts Championship.

As has become the tradition, the reigning champion headlines the opening night of action. This time around, that is Michael Smith and ‘BullyBoy’ will open the defence of his crown against the winner of the first match of the tournament, either Kevin Doets or Stowe Buntz. Also on the opening night is former world finalist, Simon Whitlock against Paolo Nebrida.

Dave Chisnall and Gary Anderson are the seeds in action on the first Saturday, with the opening weekend being closed out on Sunday by Joe Cullen in the afternoon and pre-tournament favourite Luke Humphries on Sunday night against either Lee Evans or Sandro Eric Sosing. Gerwyn Price makes his bow on Monday the 18th, with James Wade and Michael van Gerwen highlighting their respective sessions the following day, on Tuesday the 19th. Ross Smith and Peter Wright feature on the 20th, with round one coming to a conclusion on the afternoon of Thursday the 21st, all remaining games before Christmas are round 2 spectacles.

After Christmas, the tournament gets into the business end, ultimately concluding on Wednesday night, January 3rd where the next PDC World Darts Champion will be crowned.
