The world’s top darts stars will return to Hamilton next year, with the 2024 New Zealand Darts Masters taking place at the GLOBOX Arena on August 16-17.
The World Series of Darts’ global tour will conclude in Hamilton next August following confirmation that the New Zealand Darts Masters will be held for a fourth time in Hamilton.
The World Series’ inaugural visit to New Zealand came in 2015 as the first of four Auckland Darts Masters events took place, before Hamilton first hosted the New Zealand Darts Masters in 2019.
The 2023 edition of the event saw Rob Cross edge out Nathan Aspinall 8-7 in a thrilling final in front of a packed GLOBOX Arena crowd, with the dates for the 2024 event now confirmed ahead of tickets going on sale.
The 2024 NZ Darts Masters will be shown live on Sky Sport as part of a new four-year agreement with the broadcaster and the Professional Darts Corporation – which also includes coverage of the forthcoming World Darts Championship that features Kiwi stars Ben Robb and Haupai Puha.
“New Zealand has been a very popular destination for the World Series of Darts for almost a decade now and this year’s event in Hamilton was a huge success,” said PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter.
“Darts in New Zealand is getting stronger and stronger, and our annual visit to Hamilton is a chance for the domestic stars to shine in front of their home fans, whilst also seeing some of the biggest names in the sport in person.
“Our new broadcast deal with Sky NZ will see events continue to be shown on Sky Sport around the year and whets the appetite for what fans can experience live at the New Zealand Darts Masters!”
Hamilton Mayor Paula Southgate added: “I am thrilled that the New Zealand Darts Masters is returning to Hamilton in 2024.
“This tournament epitomises the perfect blend of top-notch talent and entertainment. It is also a great boost to our local economy.
“Hamilton City Council proudly supports diverse sporting activities in our city through our network of sport, recreation and play facilities.
“We are extremely fortunate to have an exceptional venue like GLOBOX Arena, Claudelands, and the venue team, H3, to attract prestigious events like the New Zealand Darts Masters to our city.”
