Pep Guardiola sent his congratulations to Newcastle United after dumping his side out of the Carabao Cup before going on to compliment the Magpie’s Brazilian duo.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola always seems to speak highly of Newcastle in victory and now even in defeat.

Last night he kicked off his post-match press conference by congratulating Newcastle for progressing in the Carabao Cup, then going on to praise Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Guardiola was very impressed by Bruno and Joelinton

Later he was asked if the way Newcastle came out in the second half surprised him to which he replied (via The Chronicle on X): “Bruno’s impact was important, Joelinton as always is important. They made a step up and we knew it, we’ve played against Newcastle like that in the past so it was no surprise.”

It was Joelinton’s first game back after a brief injury layoff and he immediately showed what we’d been missing.

His tenacity and strength was on display all night but never more apparent than his run into the box which led to Alexander Isak‘s goal.

Joelinton burst into the Man City box out-pacing and out-muscling three defenders along the way before firing the ball across the face of goal for Isak to finish.

Bruno looks to be back to his best for Newcastle lately

Meanwhile Bruno Guimaraes entered the fray at half time and along with Anthony Gordon immediately lifted the side.

After a rocky start to the season Bruno looks to be back to his best after his outstanding performance againt Sheffield United and now Manchester City.

Hopefully Guardiola is just admiring the duo from afar and has no designs on trying to take them away from us.
