SzmodicsWrexham fans have weighed in on what their new 5,500 seater stand should be named, with some believing their Hollywood owners should be honoured.

In a recent survey of Wrexham fans by the Leader, some supporters claimed that the stand should be named after their A-list owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. Their argument was that the new seating would not have been possible without the Hollywood leadership guiding them to the upper rafters of League Two. Other fans called for tributes to be made to Wrexham legend Joey Jones or the late Wrexham superfan Ian ‘Jacko’ Roberts who died in 2017.

WHAT THE WREXHAM FANS SAID

One fan said: “[It should be called] The R & R Kop stand. Without Ryan [Reynolds] and Rob [McElhenney] it would never have been built.”

Another fan added: “How can we realistically not call it something that includes our current owners’ names, as well as the Wrexham Supporters Trust – they saved our club!”Szmodics

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney has completely transformed the Welsh club. Prior to the Hollywood investment, Wrexham had been playing in the National League for 15 years. Yet, within two seasons, Wrexham were promoted to League Two and look likely to seal back-to-back promotions to League One. Despite their rapid rise to success, Wrexham fans will likely look to their history to name their new stand and allow the good times to keep rolling on under Reynolds and McElhenney.
