It’s been a quiet offseason, to say the least, for the Baltimore Orioles. After finishing as one of the best teams in baseball in 2023, the Orioles still had a clear need for starting pitching.

Not only did Baltimore not address that, but they’re actually in a worse spot than they were last season when it comes to their rotation. The team lost Kyle Gibson, who tossed 192 innings for them in 2023.

Despite not adding the ace that they’ve been looking for, they also don’t have an immediate replacement for Gibson.

However, it’s tough to panic given the circumstances.

The organization is still in a much better position than nearly every other in baseball, but at some point, they have to start spending money on top-tier free agents.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Orioles aren’t going to do that and will pass on Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery.

He adds that their hope was a trade for Corbin Burnes or Dylan Cease.

With Spring Training around the corner, it doesn’t look promising that the Chicago White Sox or Milwaukee Brewers will move Cease or Burnes. If the Brewers are playing well heading into the deadline, the chances of him being moved seem low, too.

Cease, on the other hand, will likely be traded at some point.

White Sox GM Chris Getz is looking for the perfect package, and while no team has offered him that during the offseason, it could come before the deadline.

After the season the Orioles had in 2023, there’s no excuse to not better the team heading heading into 2024.
