As many will remember, the 2022/23 season wasn’t the most exciting at Goodison Park. The Toffees very narrowly avoided relegation, and things were drab for most of the campaign.

However, despite being at Everton at such a negative time, Coady says that he really enjoyed his time at Goodison Park, and he says that he was actually desperate to make this move a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell.

Indeed, speaking on the More Than a Game Podcast, Coady says that he really wanted to join Everton permanently, but, for some reason or another, this deal never went ahead.

Coady wanted to join Everton

The £9m defender spoke about his desire to sign for the Toffees permanently.

“I’ll be honest, I was trying to get it done from two or three games in because I enjoyed it, I liked it there. I love what Everton stands for. I love the pressure of playing for Everton, the intensity it brought, the feeling after a good result. I was desperate to get it done early because I knew my time at Wolves was done, the club said that they wanted to do it, but it never for whatever reason it never got done,” Coady said.

Better move

Coady didn’t get his move to Everton, and we can understand why he regrets not being able to join the Toffees.

With all due respect, a move to Premier League Everton is much better than a move to Leicester City in the Championship, and while the Foxes are likely to come up this season, spending a season in the second-tier has all-but ended Coady’s hopes of going to the Euros this summer.

The emergence of Jarrad Branthwaite has meant that Everton haven’t missed Coady, but he was a very useful member of this squad last season.
