Wrexham face Crewe on the back of heavy defeat to Stockport

PHIL PARKINSON doesn’t like losing so last week’s thrashing was even harder to take but the Wrexham manager is backing his players to bounce back against Crewe Alexandra at The STóK Cae Ras tomorrow.

The Reds produced the best performance of the season and registered a 3-0 win in their last home game against Grimsby but followed it up by losing 5-0 at Stockport on Saturday, with Parkinson suffering the heaviest defeat since he took charge of the club.

Winning has become a habit for Wrexham in recent seasons so the manner of the Stockport was a big shock to the system as the seven-game unbeaten run in League Two came to a shuddering halt, and the Reds’ boss is looking for an immediate response.

“When you are used to winning or used to being very competitive in every game and you get beat in that manner, it seems even worse because we have not been on the end of that kind of defeat by five goals for a long time,” said Parkinson.

“We know it wasn’t good enough and we have spoken to the lads individually and collectively about what we feel people need to do, and we will put it right at the weekend.”

Althoiugh they dropped to seventh place, Wrexham are only five points behind leaders Notts County and Parkinson added: “We are right in the mix, we are close to that top-three.”

Recent signing George Evans, who is hoping to make his first league start for Wrexham against Crewe since joining from Millwall, says the players are eager to make amends.

“The lads are hurting,” said the midfielder.

“The defeat is something that we are not taking lightly and we know what we have got to do.

“The reaction is massive for us now, we need to make sure that we go and put it right on Saturday.

“Being back at home, it will be good to go and get a win for the fans.”
