The 36-year-old has signed a short-term deal with the club until the end of the season. After years of service, he was allowed to leave Coventry City on a free transfer.

McFadzean played a crucial role in the Sky Blues’ run to the Championship play-off final last season. He was a regular at the heart of their back three and that was the case this season too.

However, a change of formation in November saw McFadzean lose his place in the team and drop down the pecking order. He therefore jumped at the chance to join Rovers and wants to help them climb the Championship table.

Having made an unlikely run to the play-offs with Coventry last year, McFadzean believes the same is possible at Rovers.

“It’s massive for me, I just want to play football, that’s in my nature. I want to help the team as much as possible,” he told RoversTV.

“My target is to come in and help the team as much as possible. They’re nine points off the play-offs, it is still achievable. My goals are to play as much, do well and see what happens at the end of the season.

“Look at Coventry and where they were. We have a good enough team.

“I tend to play a lot of games every season, I have been lucky with injuries. There have been ups and downs but I’ve done alright, a decent career. I am certainly not finished yet, I want to carry on and help this team.

“I’ve come from the bottom and worked my way back up. I had a few years out of football, I’ve got back to where I am through hard work.

“That’s what you have to do, first and foremost. I have three kids, I want to make them proud and do well for the team. I love football, I want to play as long as possible.

“My little lad is one and I want him to see me play. I hopefully have a few more years left in me.”

McFadzean will be reunited with former Coventry team-mate Dom Hyam. The pair were particularly close, both on and off the pitch, prior to the captain moving to Lancashire.

The 36-year-old spoke to Hyam about Rovers before making the move and the pair will now be back sharing a house again!

“I am buzzing, I can’t wait to get started and help the lads,” he explained.

“I couldn’t wait to get it done. The size of the club is massive. I spoke to Dom and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the club.
