A lot of it will depend on who Macdonald brings in to run the offense. But it’s far from a guarantee that Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith will return to the Pacific Northwest next season.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson indicates that it’s no sure thing Smith will be a member of the Seahawks in 2024.

The reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year had a down 2023 season for the Seahawks. He threw for 3,624 yards with 20 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions. That came after a 2022 campaign in which Smith threw 30 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Smith has a $31.2 million cap hit for the 2024 season. Seattle can save $22.5 million against the cap by designating the veteran a post-June 1 cut or trading him after that date.geno smith, seattle seahawks

Though, the question here is rather obvious. Who might Seattle be able to add to the mix as an upgrade over Smith? Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield are two potential options in NFL free agency. But it remains to be seen if either one will hit the open market.geno smith, seattle seahawks

Given Seattle’s status as a retooling team, it might make more sense to go the youthful route. Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and Mac Jones of the New England Patriots are two potential options in that regard.
