MLB News: The Baltimore Orioles new ownership group wasted no time showing that they were going to be willing to add pieces to better help their team contend. A day after the new owners were announced they struck a deal for former Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.
In order to acquire Burnes the Orioles parted ways with LHP DL Hall, INF Joey Ortiz, and their 2024 Competitive Balance Round-A draft pick. Both Hall and Ortiz are MLB players in which Hall debuted in 2022 and Ortiz 2023. Despite losing their 34th overall draft pick in 2024 they still have early selections at 22 and 32.
As massive as this trade is for both organizations, the Orioles were also reportedly having trade conversations with the Chicago White Sox for 2022 Cy Young runner up Dylan Cease. Recently parts of Baltimore’s trade offer were made known public.
The Baltimore Orioles trade offer for Dylan Cease (Chicago White Sox) was strikingly similar to the Corbin Burnes trade package that the Milwaukee Brewers received (MLB News).
A report from Bob Nightengale indicated that a lot of the same players were involved in Baltimore’s trade proposal to the Chicago White Sox for Dylan Cease. Nightengale said, “the Orioles offered basically the same package for Cease, along with another player.”
