EFL expert says ipswich are ‘favourites’ for automatic promotion amid Leeds United threat with the new podcast showing…

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman fancies Southampton to edge out Leeds United and Ipswich Town in the fight for automatic promotion. The Saints climbed above the Whites into second position after recording a comfortable 2-0 win at Championship strugglers Rotherham United.

First half goals from Jan Bednarek and Adam Armstrong extended Southampton’s club record unbeaten run to 21 matches. It was their seventh win in the past eight league outings.

United are third in the standings, a point adrift of the Saints but having played a game more, while Ipswich Town slipped to fourth after losing 3-2 at Preston North End. “It’s all closing in now and it’s clearly a battle for second between Ipswich, Southampton and Leeds,” Goodman told MOT Leeds News.

“We’ve witnessed the dramatic improvement from Southampton. They are convincingly beating teams. I’d make them favourites now, if I’m being honest with you, to finish in the top two ahead of Leeds.

“Leeds have to keep applying the pressure because pressure can do strange things, as we saw when Leeds beat Ipswich.
