The West Londoners have had a difficult season and look in real danger of relegation from the Championship. They are third from bottom in the second tier, with just 28 points, and are battling to get out of the relegation zone.

The R’s are on their second manager of the season in Cifuentes, who was hired at the end of October, following Gareth Ainsworth’s dismissal.

Despite a rocky patch in December and January, the improvements under the Spaniard have been clear to see and a recent upturn in form has seen them pick up seven points from their last three matches.

Dunne has urged his former club to remain patient with Cifuentes, even if they are relegated at the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, the 80-cap Republic of Ireland international reflected on the Spanish coach’s appointment and the positive impact he has made.

He said: “To be honest, I didn’t know prior to it and I think there’s pros and cons, I suppose, to bringing in a guy who probably doesn’t know the Championship a lot.Richard Dunne - Manchester City Player Statistics - StatCity

“He can play football his own style. He’s learning quite quickly that it’s non-stop in the Championship. It’s a very difficult league but you just want to freshen the lads up, you want to give them something new, and you want to try and get them going, and I think he’s been able to do that.
