Newcastle United are currently tracking an exciting Barcelona player who has been tipped as one to watch for the future.

Barcelona have an incredible record of producing young talent and the latest name to come out of their ranks is Pau Cubarsi who has recently become a part of the first team at the Spanish club.

A new report from On The Minute claims that Newcastle are battling alongside Manchester United who currently has an £8.5m release clause in his contract.

Barcelona are negotiating with Newcastle target

The first and most important thing Barcelona would like to do with Cubarsi is negotiate a new contract to get rid of that release clause as soon as possible ahead of this summer.

However, the emergence of the teenager into the first team has made this a little bit more difficult with the defender proving to be challenging in recent talks between himself and the club.

Newcastle and Man United would both be willing to pay the fee required to sign Cubarsi putting Barcelona in a tough situation as they face losing one of their best young talents.

Manager Xavi, who will be leaving at the end of the season, is a big fan of the centre-back and would love him to stay, but it’s difficult to persuade someone when you yourself won’t be at the club next season.

Newcastle continue to search for top young talent

Newcastle have already made a very concerted effort to find some top young players to bring to Tyneside having already signed the likes of Garang Kuol, Yankuba Minteh and Alfie Harrison in the last two years.

It’s very much part of their long-term strategy to build a club that can almost be self sustainable in a few years time and require little investment moving forwards, though naturally the money is always going to be there.

Like Lewis Miley, Cubarsi is another ‘outstanding‘ talent who has emerged into the first team due to some key injuries and has now made four appearances in La Liga, starting his first ever game against Real Betis last month.
