Jaden Philogene says his move to Hull City has been perfect and believes he can satisfy his demand to be playing in the Premier League next season with the Tigers.
Philogene has delivered a series of captivating displays throughout the campaign following his £5m move from Aston Villa during the summer, and marked his return from a two-month injury lay-off with a sublime winning goal against Millwall last weekend, his seventh in 15 games to keep City firmly in the race for the top six ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Swansea City.
Given his form for both City and England’s Under-21s following his first call-up to the Young Lions, speculation has been rife about the future of the winger who turned 22 on Thursday, with Tigers vice-chairman Tan Kesler reiterating the terms of Villa’s buy-back clause at the 1904 Club’s live event last week.
City hope Philogene will lead them to promotion through the play-offs at the end of this season, and the exciting youngster believes there’s enough quality in Liam Rosenior’s squad to make that happen in the remaining 17 games of the Championship campaign, with the Tigers currently occupying sixth spot.
“Yeah, it was one hundred per cent the perfect move,” Philogene told Hull Live. “As soon as the season finishes? We can be there next season. My mind is on Hull City right now,” Philogene said about how soon he can be playing in the top flight, and with the Tigers, particularly given the January recruitment, bringing in the likes of Fabio Carvalho, Ryan Giles and Anass Zaroury.
