Everton defender Ben Godfrey should be embarrassed after falling to the ground from Richarlison’s tackle in the match against Tottenham.
That is according to former Goodison Park scout Bryan King, with the centre-back going down after a seemingly innocuous challenge from the ex-Toffees striker on Saturday (3 February).
King has also suggested that the Toffees may reassess the situation regarding the player this summer after he was strongly linked with an exit in the January transfer window.
Godfrey slammed in Everton v Tottenham
Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “We don’t know what the position with his contract is, but I don’t think Everton could have afforded to have let anybody go, to be honest.
“And according to what Sean Dyche said, the decision had been made before the transfer window opened, that no player was going to go.
“There are only 11 players who can start, and to get into that 11 you’ve got to work hard in training, show a good attitude, show an attitude that you’re there for Everton and the supporters, and you want the club to remain in the Premier League.
“If he isn’t doing that, then you’ve got to say, ‘look, we’ll reassess the situation in the summer, but until then, you’ve got to perform in whatever team you’re picked for.’
“I thought he looked a bit ragged against Tottenham, some of his tackling left question marks for me. That situation where he made out he was injured, I didn’t like that, I don’t like his attitude. I wouldn’t have him in my team. It was embarrassing, he never even got touched, and he went down as though he had broken his ankle.
“Don’t these players realise that they’ve got action replays on TV? I have to laugh when they get kicked on the ankles and they hold their heads.”
Godfrey made just his fourth Premier League appearance of the season in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. He has largely been overlooked by Dyche this season, but has remained at the club amid plenty of speculation last month.
