Hugo Bueno made his debut for Spain U21s last night, and it was one of the proudest moments of his career thus far.

In a Euro U21 qualifier versus Scotland, the Wolves full-back started.

And it was a victory for Bueno, as Benat Turrientes scored the game’s sole goal with a header from a corner.

Bueno played the entire 90 minutes and performed admirably at left back.

The Spain U21s have already won two of their two group games, having previously fallen to England in the Euro final.

A positive step for Wolves youngster Hugo Bueno

It’s fantastic to watch Bueno make his debut for his nation, even if it’s at the youth level.

Given that he’s been around Wolves’ first team for nearly a year, it’s easy to forget Bueno is still only 20.

Bueno has had a meteoric climb throughout that time.

He’d particularly impressed with the U21s, with James Collins calling him ‘excellent’ last year.

Bueno earned his chance in the first team when he was called up last season, and when he made his full debut against Crystal Palace when Rayan Ait-Nouri was injured, he took it with both hands.

Bueno has been regularly involved for Wolves since last October and appears to be a good potential.

It was recently reported that RB Leipzig made a summer bid for him.

But he was never a player Wanderers were interested in selling on any terms.

Bueno has been named an international young player.

And ideally, he’ll be able to continue his development at Wolves.

His next stop will be to make his senior national team debut. Given Bueno’s potential and how well-rounded his game is presently, it’s not out of the question that he’ll receive a shot in the next few years.
