Daniel Farke has handed some fringe players the opportunity to shine at Leeds United since the turn of the New Year.
A few injury problems and difficult festive period meant Farke was forced to adapt his starting XI somewhat, which has seen them win seven Championship matches in a row.
Ilia Gruev, Patrick Bamford, Junior Firpo and Willy Gnonto had 10 starts between them in the first 25 matches of the season, but are now very much key players as the business end of the season approaches.
From that quartet, Gnonto’s lack of form was undoubtedly the biggest source of frustration given the quality of some of his performances in the Premier League last season.
However, the 20-year-old has very much found his confidence again as of late and speaking on the latest episode of BBC’s Football Daily Podcast, Jobi McAnuff believes he is looking like the player everyone thought he would be.
McAnuff impressed by Gnonto resurgence
He said: “And then Gnonto, all the issues we had with him earlier in the season and all of a sudden he has been patient, he’s got him reintegrated back into the group and has just been on fire.
“He’s been the player we all thought he would be at the start of the season but unfortunately through all the transfer speculation he got caught up in that.”
