west hamHarry Redknapp has defended David Moyes amid increasing calls for his sacking at West Ham, with the 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 17 February marking eight matches without a win.

Despite a brilliant start to the campaign, the Hammers have tapered off in recent weeks and are currently sitting in ninth in the Premier League, without a victory since December.

However, former West Ham manager Redknapp has come to Moyes’ rescue, defending the current boss for the run of poor results at London Stadium.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (19 February, 8:11am), he said: “You can only play with what you’ve got. David Moyes has got a group of decent players that should be finishing, certainly, in the top seven or eight, and that’s what they’re doing.

“They won a cup last year. I don’t know what more he’s supposed to do. He can’t suddenly come out and make them play like Man City – they haven’t got the players.

“David is not a fool. He’s getting the best out of what he’s got. It’s not easy on the eye for the fans, as they want to see more attacking football, but I don’t know if they will because that isn’t David’s way of playing.”west ham

Harry Redknapp to David Moyes’ rescue at West Ham United

Redknapp will understand more than most the difficult situation surrounding Moyes at West Ham currently.

The 60-year-old has delivered the club one of the greatest moments in their history, lifting the Europa Conference League after an edge-of-your-seat thriller against Fiorentina in Prague, Czechia.

However, football is based on results, and Moyes is currently struggling to find any decent results, with the side without a win in eight matches.

David Moyes has come under increasing pressure, especially after the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal.

In that period, the Hammers have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship outfit Bristol City, thrashed 3-0 and 6-0 by Manchester United and Arsenal, respectively, while conceding 16 goals and only scoring four.

The frustration at London Stadium is understandable, and the mass walkout against the Gunners on Sunday 11 February was evidence of that.
