The U’s take on the high-flying Magpies at the JobServe Community Stadium, aiming to turn their fine form into points.

Colchester have taken four points from a possible nine in their last three games but have deserved more and Garner said: “I think we’re more than a match for anyone in the division.

“Notts County have a really clear playing identity and style and have started the season really, really well.

“They’ll be in a good place and be confident but it’s a game that we’re really looking forward to

“On our day if we perform, I’m confident that we can beat anyone in the division home or away and we just need to prove that on a regular basis now.

“We need to carry on from where we’ve been in the last three games.

“We’re creating lots of opportunities – I think we’ve had something like 63 shots and 25 against and that’s what we’ve got to keep doing.

“If we do that on a regular basis, then results happen for us.

“We’ve been unfortunate in the last two and to take one point out of six is a little bit cruel.

“But we have to focus on the good elements of the play and the positives and we can hurt Notts County, for sure.”

Colchester head into the Notts County game in 20th position, in League Two.

With two victories registered so far, their performances have not always been reflected in their results but Garner admits they need wins on the board.

“The bottom line is, we need to win games,” added the U’s boss.

“It’s our livelihoods and for me as head coach, we have to win games.

“If we don’t win games, then I don’t stay in the job too long – if you’re losing every week or if you’re not picking up enough points, that’s the nature of football.

“We will stick with it, we need to get better, which we are.”
