Leicester City v Leeds United - Sky Bet ChampionshipJoel Piroe has been discussing the automatic promotion race ahead of Leeds United’s match with Leicester City tonight.

The Championship’s top two go head-to-head under the lights at Elland Road with both Ipswich Town and Southampton likely to be watching on as the race intensifies.

All of the top four are currently averaging at least two points per game and it is a standard that has never been seen before at this level, which means any kind of slip up will be pounced upon.

Leicester City v Leeds United - Sky Bet ChampionshipLeeds have won eight league matches in a row in order to put themselves in this position, and it is a run that was definitely needed considering some of the inconsistent form around Christmas.

Speaking to LUTV ahead of this evening’s match, Piroe still believes that Leicester are within Leeds’ sights but knows a higher than usual points total will be needed for the top two.

Piroe assesses race for automatic promotion

He said: “With the points up for grabs it is achievable, yes. We know as well normally what has been enough for automatic promotion might not be enough this year, so we have to try and win every game from now on.”

There is no doubt that Leicester are still catchable from Leeds’ perspective, but any hopes they still have will rely on them getting a win tonight. The gap would still be at six points, even with a victory.
