Former Ipswich Town defender Alex Bruce has left his role as Macclesfield boss to take up a coaching role with League Two side Salford City.
The 39-year-old leaves the Silkmen with the club fifth in the Northern Premier League – the seventh tier – having taking over last October for his first role in management.
Bruce will work under manager Karl Robinson, who has transformed Salford’s form since joining last month. They are unbeaten in eight games and sit 19th, 16 points above the relegation zone.
Director of Football Ryan Giggs said: “We’re delighted to have Alex join us here to expand our coaching staff, on the recommendation of Karl who was keen to bring him in.
“Alex will bring a lot of football experience with him and we’d like to welcome him warmly to the club.”
He had previously been on the coaching staff at West Bromwich Albion during his father Steve’s spell in charge at the Hawthorns.
In total, he made 127 appearances and scored three goals for Town between 2006 to 2010.
Former Town loanee Luke Garbutt is the among the players in the Ammies squad, after joining the club last summer.
