Paul Mullin looked back to his best as he grabbed a brace and although Wrexham started poorly they did put in an impressive display overall, especially considering they played an hour with ten men.

The big striker clinched a last-ditch point with a header that sent the Racecourse into raptures. Wrexham deserved at least a point and this performance with ten men for an hour will hearten Phil Parkinson ahead of a tough October schedule.

As mentioned above, Wrexham didn’t exactly come out of the blocks firing and it was the visitors who were on top during the opening exchanges. The hosts barely threatened the Crewe goal and it was no surprise when Alex took the lead in the 24th minute.

A corner was whipped into the box and Mickey Demetriou was given plenty of space to head home. It got even worse for the Reds in the 36th minute as Ryan Barnett was sent off for a late challenge and things looked bleak for the hosts.

In the 40th minute however Paul Mullin bagged his first goal since his return from injury with a spectacular overhead kick which nestled in the corner of the net. Unfortunately for Phil Parkinson’s men they slipped behind once again as James McClean was adjudged to have brought down Rio Adebisi.

Chris Long made no mistake from the spot and Crewe went into the half time break 2-1 up as the home fans roundly booed off the officials. The second got off to a dream start for Wrexham however as Paul Mullin bagged his second of the game with a fabulous strike from 15 yards.
