New York City Football Club Appoint Nick Cushing as Head Coach | New York City FCEverton: Nick Cushing wants to be the next Everton manager, while New York City head speaks out.

New York City boss Nick Cushing has said it is a “fantasy” of his to manage Everton one day.

The 39-year-old, who is from Chester, has been in charge at the Yankee Stadium since 2022 and guided his current club to an 11th place finish in the Eastern Conference last year.

Cushing is a boyhood Blues’ supporter and has revealed that it is his dream to be in the dugout at Goodison Park.

He has told The Mirror (3 March): “It’s not fantasy to me but based on the fact it’s Everton, maybe it is still fantasy. I was a season ticket holder there right the way through from three to 18, I also took my two sons to Goodison Park in December to watch us lose to Fulham on penalties in the Carabao Cup.New York City Football Club Appoint Nick Cushing as Head Coach | New York City FC

“I went to the 1995 and 2008 FA Cup finals, was at Wimbledon when we stayed up and my dad goes to every game. My ambition is to work at the highest level and every time I have gone up, I’ve never felt it was a challenge greater than my capabilities.”

New York City boss Nick Cushing eyes Everton job

Cushing has won 31.25 per cent of games in charge of New York City since taking over there and would be an interesting option for Everton if they were to pursue a move for him in the future.

The Englishman wasn’t a player and worked his way up through the coaching ranks at Manchester City.

He was then manager of City Women for eight years from 2012 to 2020 and won the Super League in 2016.New York City Football Club Appoint Nick Cushing as Head Coach | New York City FC

Cushing then moved over to America and became New York City’s assistant under ex-Celtic boss Ronny Deila and helped the Blues win the MLS Cup in his first year across the pond before taking the top job.

There is obviously a big difference between the Premier League and MLS in terms of quality but there is no doubt that it is getting better over there, especially with the World Cup being in USA, Canada and Mexico upcoming in 2026.
