West Ham United star Edson Alvarez was blown away by Kalvin Phillips’ substitute performance against Everton and quickly sent the midfielder a new message.
David Moyes’ side picked up a vital three points as they ran out 3-1 winners at Goodison Park on Saturday (2 March) coming from behind thanks to second-half goals from Kurt Zouma, Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez.
While Phillips didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet, he impressed both his teammates and pundits from the bench after he replaced James Ward-Prowse after the hour mark with a combative midfield display.
Posting on Instagram on Saturday (2 March) he shared an image following Soucek’s late goal with the caption: “Until the end” and Edson Alvarez quickly replied: “What a player” partnered with a fire emoji.
Will West Ham sign Kalvin Phillips permanently this summer?
Phillips’ time at West Ham so far has been nothing short of a crisis and the England international has been widely slammed by pundits and supporters alike for looking off of the pace in a claret and blue shirt this season.
However, Moyes has always insisted that it was going to take time for the Manchester City loanee to get back to up to match fitness and his performance at Goodison Park on Saturday showed that he may be heading in the right direction.
The 28-year-old battled well out of possession and impressed on the ball as the Hammers completed a remarkable late comeback. It wasn’t the perfect midfield display, but it was a really positive step in the right direction for Phillips.
Hopefully, the Manchester City loanee can use Saturday’s cameo as a platform to build on for the remainder of the season and should he continue to go from strength to strength, West Ham may be keen to secure his services permanently.
