Seven most vile football club badges ever five years on from Leeds' shambolic design - Daily Star

Leeds United dodged transfer bullet on Nadiem Amiri, he barely plays for Bayer Leverkusen after recent development

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri has become an unfortunate afterthought at the Bay Arena after his failed Leeds United move and he may be thinking what might have been had he decided to jump ship.

The Bayer Leverkusen was flown into West Yorkshire by the club to seal a move in the final week of the window, but when it didn’t after a twist in talks, they told him to make his own way home [Phil Hay].

German outlet Rheinesche Post reported on 30 August that Leeds agreed on a fee with Leverkusen to sign the 26-year-old but he opted against moving to Elland Road – a decision has severely cost him.

Rheinesche Post reported in its print edition on Wednesday (13 September, C5) that Amiri is considered to have no prospect at the Bundesliga club in the future having been left out of their Europa League squad by Xabi Alonso.

Amiri would’ve been a great signing and marketable asset for the Championship and would have certainly been among the best players in the second division.

Leeds did everything they could to convince Amiri to move to Elland Road over the summer transfer window. He appeared to have given his word to multiple clubs before backing out of all moves and he ended up staying put in Germany.

It’s fair to assume that Leverkusen expected him to move on and get money from his sale but his turning down moves put that in jeopardy and it’s certainly cost him, with the German international only featuring in just two Bundesliga games so far, all coming from the substitutes bench (WhoScored).

Amiri never gave Leeds United the feeling that he really wanted to be there and even flew to Leeds just as a formality and having such players in the squad is never good as they do not give it their all throughout the course of the season.

This is supposed to be a critical campaign for the 49ers Enterprises and Daniel Farke and it was absolutely critical they acquired players who were desperate to play for the club and fight for the badge, that was never Amiri’s intention hence his decision.

However, Leeds United have certainly moved on admirably and right now are showing that they really didn’t need the German international with the likes of Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe thriving right now in attack.

Certainly, Amiri would have proven an exciting acquisition but his attitude has certainly been called into question numerous times over the years which means the Whites certainly dodged a critical transfer bullet – one will have had damaging repercussions on their squad harmony.

In other Leeds United news, the 49ers will now be on high alert to make a decision on the future of one incredibly gifted Thorp Arch academy graduate after some transfer interest involving a Premier League club.
