On Saturday Darwin Nunez netted a 99th-minute winner for Liverpool to edge past relegation-threatened Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side fought hard throughout, but ultimately failed to defend a late corner, allowing Nunez to nod home Alexis Mac Allister’s deep cross.

While the result saw Liverpool go temporarily four points clear at the Premier League summit, for Forest there was huge frustration.

Fans were particularly furious that the ball had been returned to Liverpool shortly before the winner was scored, following a stoppage due to a head injury while Nottingham Forest were in possession.Nunez scored a 99th minute winner (Getty)

It was later confirmed that referee Paul Tierney should have given Forest the ball back minutes before the dramatic winner.

Chaotic scenes unfolded at full time, with Evangelos Marinakis, the Forest owner, even appearing pitch-side as others remonstrated with the officials. Steven Reid, a member of the Forest coaching staff, was also red-carded.

The goal sent emotions over the edge, with a video since emerging of furious Forest fans venting their frustrations in the direction of the Liverpool bench.

In the clip, Reds left-back Andy Robertson is seen carrying a young mascot away from the ire of the Forest supporters.

SPORTbible has contacted Nottingham Forest and Liverpool for comment on the incident.
