I believed the fantastic ace was hiding against West Ham – Everton requires more than hand gestures, and he will face this….Amadou Onana during the match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on March 2, 2024

The West Ham United game was an opportunity for Amadou Onana to dictate the play for Everton but he looked to me like he was hiding.

When he came on against Manchester City, he knew the world was watching him, he was up against the best team in the world and he wanted the ball. Onana wanted to showcase his ability at the Etihad Stadium but I didn’t see any of that against West Ham United side who were much lesser opposition.

Yes he showed for the ball but he wasn’t proactive enough. There were no forward passes or running with the ball 10 or 15 yards to break the line of that midfield.

West Ham weren’t trying to press Everton, they haven’t got players like Idrissa Gueye who trying and nick the ball off you in midfield, hurry and harass you. They were sat in their formation and you just hope that Onana could grab the game by the scruff of the neck and show his quality and try and pass the ball in between the lines to cause issues.Amadou Onana during the match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on March 2, 2024

We need more from players like him in these moments. You’re at Goodison Park in front of your fans, you’re putting your hands up to try and get the crowd going but you need to start showing us a bit more by doing your job by showing that effort, staying on your feet and marking your man properly.

When you are on the ball, show your quality a bit more. He doesn’t do enough.

The frustrations at Goodison Park continue with Sean Dyche needing to find a way to get the best out of it, we’ve now got a wait of over a month until we’re back playing at home with a hat-trick of away matches. Maybe it suits this Dyche team a bit better either because they can express themselves more on their travels or just sit in.Amadou Onana during the match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on March 2, 2024

Manchester United have got top quality players but they’re in turmoil right now with pressure on their manager. They’ve just suffered a tough derby defeat so you’ve got to try and get at them, it’s up to players like Onana who seemingly want to use Everton as a stepping stone to start showing their ability and prove to the Evertonians why we brought them to the football club by getting the points on the board that we need.
