Darren Bent has namechecked Leeds United live on air during a conversation with Andy Goldstein about the excitement of the Championship.
The Whites have the opportunity to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League, despite Leicester City initially holding a 10-point gap at the top of the table.
Following a string of superb results at Elland Road, the gap has closed to just five points, although Ipswich Town have re-entered the conversation for the top two spots.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (6 March, 4:14pm), Bent said: “I know we probably say it every year, about that season being the most exciting, but when you look at what’s going on at the top of the Championship…
“I’m sure a lot of people were expecting Leicester, Leeds and Southampton to almost run away with it because they were the ones to come down, and then you get the likes of Norwich, West Brom and maybe even Sunderland and Middlesbrough almost pushing them.
“But the fact you’ve got Ipswich, fresh out of League One, it is unbelievable stuff. Two of the big hitters are not going to make it.”
Will Leeds United claim automatic promotion to the Premier League?
Daniel Farke has done an incredible job at Elland Road so far, even despite the disappointing 3-2 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup and 1-1 draw with 10-man Huddersfield Town.
Leeds got back to winning ways with a tightly fought 1-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday (5 March), putting pressure on both Leicester and Ipswich. However, both claimed all three points in their respective matches against Sunderland and Bristol City.
The league will likely come down to the wire, and with 12 matches of the campaign remaining, the Whites will need to be at their absolute best if they are to achieve their ultimate goal.
Elland Road was devastated by relegation last season, finishing in 19th after a very poor season, amassing 31 points from their 38 league games.
Enzo Maresca and Kieran McKenna have both received plaudits throughout the season, and so they should do, for creating one of the most intense title races in the current campaign across world football.
Farke’s previous work with Norwich in the division would suggest that Leeds currently hold all the power, having earned promotion to the Premier League twice with the Canaries.
