Sam WinchPeterborough United Women are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Winch as the new General Manager after Bobby Copping stepped down from the role following three successful years in the position.

Winch has over 15 years of experience in the women’s game, most recently as Manager for Doncaster Rovers Belles. He has previously managed for Nottingham Forest Women, coached at Leicester City Women and was Chairman of the women’s section at Basford United.

“I’ve worked in both the men’s and women’s game with various clubs. With all those experiences, it leaves me in good stead to take on the mantle of General Manager, which I’m really excited for and know I’ve got some big shoes to fill. I’m really looking forward to getting started and using the experiences I’ve got to drive this football club forwards.”Winch eager to write new chapter in Belles history | News | Doncaster Rovers

He believes it is great timing for him to come into this role: “It’s a fantastic football club, both on and off the field in terms of the facilities, the stadium and personnel, but I think there’s also so much potential going forward and I cannot wait to be a part of it.”

“Me and Bobby have spoken about the expectations he set at the start of the season. I want to mirror that, but also champion what they are doing so far. Looking at the league table we are up there, but as the girls have said themselves, they want to finish strong and challenge for that top place. We are a club that are looking at being in Tier 3 sooner rather than later and it’s my role to come in and oversee all that- not just from a first team perspective, but filtering that down amongst the ages.”

When asked what he will contribute to the club, Winch said: “Hunger and enthusiasm are the minimum for me in terms of football. The desire and passion and to be successful. I come from a family of successful athletes and from a passionate background of someone who wants to compete at the highest level.”Winch eager to write new chapter in Belles history | News | Doncaster Rovers

“It is an exciting time coming in at this point. We are at the business end of the season so we want to make sure that we finish strong across the board and ensure that all the players throughout this football club understand what it takes to wear the badge.”
