Manchester United are set to lock horns with Everton in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.
Both the Red Devils and the Toffees will be desperate to return to winning ways after suffering downturns in form.
Erik ten Hag’s charges have lost their last two in the league, while Sean Dyche’s side haven’t won in the top flight since just before Christmas.
Paul Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, backed Manchester United to get the better of Everton, predicting a 2-0 home win.
Admittedly, the pundit reckons it would be “a bit unusual” for the Red Devils to get a comfortable win and clean sheet, but still feels they can do it against the struggling Toffees.
“This is a good time to play Manchester United if you’re Everton,” began Merson. “But the Toffees just can’t seem to win a game at the moment!
“They’ve gone 10 games without a win in the Premier League and they have scored more than one goal only once in those games!
“I’m just going to fancy Manchester United here as I cant see the goal threat from Everton.
“The Red Devils keeping a clean sheet and getting a comfortable win is a bit unusual this season, but I can see them getting the job done at Old Trafford.”
Manchester United should see off Everton – opinion
Man United and Everton last faced off in November as the Red Devils ran out 3-0 winners at Goodison Park.
Alejandro Garnacho scored that famous overhead kick that is likely to be in the running for Goal of the Season.
Although the Red Devils haven’t been great this season, I reckon Merson’s prediction is accurate. They should have more than enough to see off an Everton side completely bereft of confidence.
I’ll predict a 2-1 win for Man United, which would bring them closer to fifth place, with Tottenham currently six points ahead of Ten Hag’s side.
