Football finance expert Kieran Maguire admits he was surprised by Angus Kinnear’s claim Leeds United had saved £40million in wages by allowing players to leave the club on loan. He goes on to say that the Whites should have wriggle room in terms of additional transfers in January should they need further additions for a promotion push.
“I think this will be a year of retrenchment as far as spending is concerned for Leeds,” Maguire told Football Insider. “In the case of Leeds United, I’m surprised at the comments made by Angus Kinnear because you would have thought that players would also have significant step downs in terms of their wages.
“But it looks instead that the players have gone elsewhere provided that the replacements brought in by Leeds United are of a sufficient standard for the championship. They should have a bit of wiggle room in January and that will allow them the flexibility required to put in a significant promotion charge for this season.“
