The Canaries’ last Championship away win came more than two months ago as they beat Hull on Humberside, with only two points collected from their subsequent four games on enemy territory.

That continued last week with a 3-1 loss to Middlesbrough down in the main to Sainz’s now-overturned red card, but the Spaniard knows things must change if they’re to retain their place in the top six.

“We need to be a bit stronger away from home, because at Carrow Road we’ve demonstrated that we can deliver,” he said. “Keeping the pace at home and adding more away points, we should make it to the play-offs.The Borja Sainz story… so far

“As I’ve said before, from my perspective it’s a bit complicated to perform away in the same way that we do at Carrow Road, in part because our fan base plays an important part in every match at home. When we need extra, they’re always there.

“Anyway, this is not an excuse. But I want to point out the importance of our fans and the support from them. We’re going to need it, especially in these last few matches of the season.”

That impressive home record is the flip side of the issue, with Norwich undefeated on their own patch since early November. Home form has been enough to see them edge into the play-off places, leapfrogging the Tigers with a 5-0 demolition of Rotherham on Saturday.
