It comes after scoring 15 goals in 50 games prior to this season, for Genoa. So, a top player in a mid-table side. He deserves to be playing a lot higher, at least for a club that are in European competition.

They are not the only Premier League club showing interest. London rivals Tottenham are also said to have enquired after the Iceland attacker – who has a £26m release clause in his contract at Genoa.

You would imagine that Spurs are well-positioned to get him. But, a new report from Italian site CM claims that West Ham have joined the race to land Gudmundsson and are alongside Tottenham at the front of the queue for his signature. Juventus and Inter are keen.
