He is being used as the more box-to-box midfielder by the Leicester manager and Ndidi has stood up to the challenge and relishing his new role in the Foxes team in the ongoing campaign.

He has scored a goal and also assisted another one and Nugent conceded that he has rarely seen a player adapt to a new position and new role in such a seamless fashion as Ndidi.

The former Leicester man indicated that never envisaged the player to be playing the current role where he is running into the penalty box and creating chances for others.

Nugent said on the BBC’s When You’re Smiling podcast: “Wilfred is a crazy one.

“I have never seen a player convert into a different position so quickly.

“We have known him as a number 6 but he is now a number 9, running into the box, doing stepovers and creating chances for players.”

Ndidi has started seven of Leicester’s nine Championship games thus far and has been pivotal to their dominant start to the season.
