The Whites missed the chance to move to the top of the table after Leicester City lost 1-0 against Bristol City in the early kick-off on Friday. Leeds, however, maintained their unbeaten run to 14 games in the Championship.

Watford produced arguably their best performance of the season, as they went 2-1 up at the break, with goals coming from Vakoun Bayo and Emmanuel Dennis.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke bemoaned his side’s lack of preparation for this game due to the international break, but he was pleased to see the response from the Whites as substitute Mateo Joseph scored the equaliser in the 85th minute. It took him just 25 seconds to score after coming off the bench.

Crysencio Summerville scored his 16th goal of the campaign, after cutting inside from the left and curling the ball emphatically from inside the box, as he returned to his old best after a slight dip in form. The Daily Mail (page 102) has hailed the 22-year-old as “excellent” for his performance against Watford.

Leeds United injury problems

Ideally, the Whites would have wanted to secure all three points, but Farke won’t be too disappointed. It is not always easy to maintain the same rhythm after coming from international duty.

Due to an injury to Ilia Gruev, Farke was forced to break his defensive partnership. He brought the veteran skipper Liam Cooper into the starting line-up alongside Joe Rodon, pushing Ethan Ampadu in midfield.

Leeds looked unconvincing at the back, and it was only after the 61st minute, when Ampadu returned in defence, the home side failed to register a single shot on target. It is not a coincidence that Leeds have conceded twice in a single half for the first time since Boxing Day.

The injuries to Willy Gnonto and Connor Roberts will hurt the Whites. Both the players are expected to miss up to three weeks.
